10 Websites Moms Can Consign and Re-Sell Their Children's Clothing

Springtime is approaching! Time flies by so fast when you are having fun! As my son is growing; his clothing is shrinking and he is constantly outgrowing his outfits, shoes, and interest in certain toys, books, and games. Are you thinking like me and wanting to get rid of things no longer being used? Maybe to make space for something new?

If so; you are in the right spot because consigning clothing and re-selling home goods is something I enjoy doing in my spare time. A few years back I would make an extra few hundred dollars per month just re-selling clothing, shoes, and baby gear in my free time. Now is the perfect time to begin a bit of early Spring cleaning. Having a cleaner and clutter-free home can reduce stress and help you feel more relaxed overall finding items easier and not having a lot of clothing and baby gear you are not needing any longer.

In-person you can try selling or trading in children's clothing, games, and toys at places such as Once Upon A Child or Sweet Repeats for babies and younger children. Once Upon A Child currently has a location in South Oklahoma City as well. Plato's Closet or Daisy Exchange may be a wonderful fit for your teen's unwanted accessories, shoes, bags, and clothing. I like the fact these stores also have more than one location for your convenience.

Oklahoma has some consignment events throughout the year; in various cities. Two popular ones I have noticed are the Just Between Friends sales and Rhea Lana's franchises. When I visited two; they are like a large yard or garage sale. Tons of baby gear and clothing, are being sold from families all over Oklahoma! What a perfect opportunity to clear out your clutter during these large events.

These stores are great for when you are in a rush and do not want to spend the time selling, posting, and listing items online. No worries; those companies may be a good fit for you. Companies such as ThredUp donate my items they choose not to sell; although they are an online second-hand store. If you have larger items such as strollers or cribs; did you know you can rent them out to families with companies such as BabyQuip?

Ten websites that I have found for consigning or selling children's clothing include:

  1. eBay
  2. Bagsy
  3. Swap
  4. Vinted
  5. ReCrib
  6. Kidizen
  7. Mercari
  8. Toycycle
  9. Shop Tomorrows
  10. Everything But The House

Each company I suggest has their policies as to what they do and do not accept. Certain companies may take one brand; while some may have a strict no rule to the same brand. I started using eBay, and; it just was not for me...even though I feel it is the best option for someone wanting to start re-selling items around their own home. You can start by cleaning out your own children's closets and your home to see what you no longer have room or use for.

Companies such as Etsy allow you to list and re-sell vintage items on your own time. It would then be up to you to ship items  to customers in a timely fashion. You may also want to include a thank you card and be super nice as customers can leave reviews for you.

Sometimes I am  surprised at what people purchase and I am picky about what I sell. Selling items that are in good or gently-used conditions and free of any stains, holes, fading or tears are the rules I go by. Inspecting each item I sell near great lighting is a key and eventually, I invested in a mannequin. If you are just doing this for fun or to clear out clutter here and there; no need for any of that. You can just use your smartphone, lay the items out flat or hang them up for photographs.

When taking photographs of items you want to sell online; you could try taking the photos near natural light, outside, or close to a ring light. Since I want anyone buying to see what the item would look like in person; I do not use filters on photographs. I include a detailed description of what I am selling. Be sure to list any flaws your items may have.

With companies such as The Swoondle Society and My Little Outfit; you can opt to receive a bag to trade in your children's clothing. You will ship in the items you no longer need if you are only interested in a trading program that can save you money on clothing for your children they can currently fit into.

Hopefully, you can de-clutter a bit this Spring season and get your closets, home, and children's rooms more organized. It can seem overwhelming at first but you can start with one room or closet at a time. Once the process has started; you may begin to notice a sense of relief as you see things get more cleared out; making space for new items you may want to add to your wardrobes and home.  Happy consigning!
