I could not imagine living anywhere other than in Oklahoma. Exploring this beautiful state more with my son was on my bucket list before the summer break ends and school is back in session for children.
Narrowing down our list of to-do attractions; It was time for a little road trip. Besides; I have a kindergartner now. He assured me he could handle road trips without complaining. We will see about that…want to go off the beaten path with us?
My friends call me D and I am a stay-at-home mom and mommy blogger. My incredible son Max and I love blogging about the amazing memories we create together in our hometown. Plus; we homeschool so it is a priority to get out and about.
Traveling can be pricier but I took more affordable routes and my child still had a blast. It is all about the quality time spent together to me.
Finding family-friendly events and activities is one of the things I love most about being a stay-at-home mom. It is not the laundry and dishes; who would have thought?
I feel children learn best by playing so I am constantly on the search for what we can do in the Oklahoma City metro area. It seems as if we have been to Oklahoma City’s wonderful science museum, zoo, splash pads, and indoor playgrounds countless times.
While there are plentiful family-friendly attractions in Oklahoma City; how about those in little towns you may not venture to often or at all? I was very hesitant to drive more than twenty or thirty minutes but these trips were so worthwhile!
Keep calm; the memories are worth the “Are we there yet?” Convos.
When planning your excursion; pack some snacks, electronics, and books to occupy your little ones. I also made sure to stop at gas stations along the way for potty breaks.
Lake Texoma is number one on my list. You can rent container homes, RVs, cabins, or apartment-like homes. Consider staying awhile at Marina Del Rey. I love how everyone waves non-stop and the staff is friendly.
Visit The Belly Flop Restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dining and relaxing at the lake is a lot cheaper when we bring our groceries from the Wal-Mart in Madill on the way or home, but I always have to have their catfish at the Belly Flop.
Lake trips are always my favorite! Going outside in the morning to enjoy quiet time is so refreshing. It was exactly what I needed this Summer! If you ever visit without children; there is a very fun live music venue called Barbay to try. Great for a date night with your spouse!
The business at Marina Del Rey who rented us our carts was amazing and had cars decorated just for children to enjoy. It was so cute! I also suggest bringing snacks, fishing poles and water toys to keep your children entertained during downtime. Most teens enjoy riding the golf carts all day and I see why. It was so much fun!
#2 Jasmine moran children’s museum in Seminole, Oklahoma
I remember my field trip to the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum as a kindergartner so it was very special for me to take my son.
Jasmine Moran has a cute eatery, outdoor maze, park, gift shop, water table, craft area, and more. I remember loving the pretend grocery store as a child!
#3 Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, Oklahoma
This aquarium is complete with an arcade, concession area, event center, and outdoor playground. There’s an area to feed stingrays and turtles! So cute!
My son was exhausted and had so much fun! I think it was worth the drive from Oklahoma City. There were sharks, fish, eels, jellyfish and more. It was a great experience!
We hope your family gets around to checking out these off the beaten tracks suggestions. We sure had a lot of fun exploring! Well Wishes!
