Wanting to organize your closet spaces more? Would you also be open to the idea of re-selling or consigning the unwanted and gently-used items for extra cash? I have seen videos on social media where former associates at those franchise buy/sell/trade concept clothing stores are a total rip-off. I found them so interesting since I had been selling to places such as that for a long time. Never again.
If you plan on donating items instead of re-selling them...keep in mind just because a charity has a charity sounding name; it may not be. Research companies you donate to or send them to re-selling platforms who can donate what they cannot accept and what does not sale.
I do not recommend sending or selling items that are damaged, stained or anything such as flaws. This wastes time for everyone on both ends as customers will want a return if it is purchased. OR the companies will have to make rules stricter if people send in damaged goods. Most companies are clearing in their buying and selling guidelines so only re-sell clean and gently-used items. Now; let's get you started with advice on where to sell and how you can make some money.
For starters; consider an old-fashioned yard sale. You can find awesome tips and ideas for throwing a successful Yard or garage sale.
If you ever want to sell your items fast try Facebook marketplace but meet in a public place by cameras at a police department parking lot or so. I heard many police stations suggest meeting there for Facebook sales and such. I am not sure if that is allowed in all areas so it is nice to call the non-emergency line of your police station and ask. I think that is a great idea.
A reason I stopped using Facebook to sell baby stuff, home goods, and more is because I was getting flaky people at times. It was not fun for me to drive, arrange a meeting time for two busy people, or the back and forth of texting that can end up happening. Selling on Instagram or Facebook live may be an idea that may interest some people if they prefer to not meet up with others just yet in your re-selling journey.
Meeting up with people was just not my thing even though I did not have a terrible experience. Maybe some weird experiences. Some no-shows at times. And usually a lot of obnoxious questions such as people wondering can they try the outfits on, can I throw in more free stuff, will I go down on the price...sigh.
I prefer using companies such as Swap just for reasons like that. They handle the shipping, delivery...and customer service. They even photograph, describe, and lists your item for sale. I have referred people to Swap who have gotten nice size checks for selling items. If you sell to swap consistently; you could get a monthly paycheck as I do.
How is that? All I do is make sure to send items to them each season and over time they just sell and I am sent a payment. What I love most about this company is you get more profit for your sold items compared to a lot of those stores where you go in and get paid $1 for a pair of jeans. It seems you get more money for your sold items here so it is worth trying. Swap sends you a pre-paid label you can print off and then you send your items in to be sold. They do the rest of the work for you! This is perfect for busy parents.
Now I do not sell much on other platforms because Swap spoils me with doing the hard parts I do not like to do when it comes to re-selling. That includes the photos, listing, and shipping aspects.
If you are open to the idea of re-selling clothing, accessories, home décor, children's items, and more...you may love some of these companies and re-selling apps. I have made hundreds of dollars per month in the past just re-selling things I already had in my closet. It was not nearly enough for me to pay things like a mortgage but it did come in handy when I wanted to take my child to the movies or bowling.
Just having the extra money for gas and groceries could be so helpful for many families but you do not have to do it part-time or full-time. You can sell items you have without thrifting, going to yard sales, or buying things. Just start by cleaning out your own home and closets.
Some re-selling platforms have women and men making full-time income so it is a work-at-home option to consider. I resell items seasonally since it is the perfect excuse for cleaning motivation around Spring for "Spring Cleaning." It also keeps me on more of a clutter-cleaning schedule. I remember each time a new season is approaching it is time to do some closet cleaning. It seems to be just the right amount of time for closets to be organized a bit.
This month I will be working on my garage, kitchen, office, and other rooms since I can re-sell items besides clothing online. You can too! Look for items such as coffee mugs, vintage items, books, baby gear, shoes...people purchase those things on reselling platforms and you may end up making some extra cash.
