Visiting the parks in downtown Oklahoma City

This past weekend we visited both children's parks located in downtown Oklahoma City. The first one we visited was Scissortail Park. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon. There were already vendors setting up and food trucks open for business. Often times when we visit; there is shopping and food available for purchase.

We have yet to visit the little eatery; Spark, but plan to do just that one day and join as a member of Scissortail Park for free boat rides. Sometimes I get bored at home so doing something outdoorsy is a nice way to explore the city a bit. Plus; as a member I would not have to pay each time!

Since it has been extremely hot outdoors my son and I wanted to check out these particular parks as they have splash pads. I took a book along with me since I figured we would be there quite awhile. Since we have been the last time; I noticed a smaller water area inside the park area that is perfect for toddlers. The larger splash pad can tend to be quite busy although it is larger.

Luckily we found free street parking. If you go after six p.m. on the weekdays or anytime on Saturdays and Sundays; street parking free. There is my money saving secret while visiting downtown Oklahoma City. Scissortail Park is also a wonderful spot to go for a stroll through the park or to explore the city a bit after a date night. It is literally next door to Omni Hotel in which you can rent private cabanas or day-passes for their rooftop pool. Perfect for a mother's "day-cation!"

The following day we went back to the children's garden next door to the Myriad Botanical Gardens which we visit on a regular basis. Again; I prefer visiting on the weekends as I can obtain free street parking...and usually quite close! This is one of my favorite play grounds to visit as it is complete with shade trees, a splash pad, carousel, and of course a garden. There are even water fountains and restrooms on site that seem to be kept clean.

A great perk of visiting the children's garden is the convenience of being able to check out the fish alongside the crystal bridge. We enjoy heading over to take a look at the fish, ducks and turtles on our way back to the car. Sometimes a snow cone stand or concession stand is up for business for guests. We hope you get to check out one of these beautiful parks soon. Until next time!
